Patrick trained at Cambridge University completing his Diploma in 1983. Since then he has settled and practised in Cambridge working firstly with Cound Page Architects and later with Nicholas Ray Associates before setting up Patrick Ward - Chartered Architects in 1992.

He has taught at Cambridge University and the Kent Institute of Art and Design and has exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.

He was Project Architect for Titchwell Bird Hide Reception Building, which recently won an RIBA award.
